The Alchemist

<< Back By Diavollo
I was a man, like any other, with wishes, goals and a will. I still don't know if it was fate or destiny which lead me down this path.

When I was young I used to be a soldier. Then one day when I was coming back from a mission I found my parents murdered, with their eyes wide open, those eyes, I'll never forget. Still my little brother wasn't there. It was a relief to think that he could be alive, but the nightmare had just begun. Where was he and what had the person that murdered my parents did to him? Then I heard the emperor's call. The duty of a soldier is to serve the emperor, so no matter how upset I was, I had to go to the town square. There I saw the emperor with my brother. He said "This little man is a traitor who had been selling data about or village and army for money. For this, he and his brother will be hanged, with no right of having a last wish." I knew that corruption made its way up to the palace, but having a corrupt ruler that was killing innocents to save his skin was too much. When the emperor saw me, he got scared, drew his sword out, and killed my brother. This memory haunts me even now. All I know is that I went mad and lost control. When I woke up, everyone in my village was dead.
My fate was sealed.
Darkness' grasp had caught me. My long and painful journey had just begun...

I have chosen to prevent things like this to happen. Fighting corruption wasn't that easy though. I had to get myself prepared. For five years, I trained day and night. I made a long journey in order to get strong. I knew that in a distant land, on top of a mountain there was a dojo where the best assassins were trained. Climbing that mountain was easy, even though it was full of poisonous snakes, deadly traps and falling rocks. The first thing I remembered when I got on top was that I felt that a thousand needles got into me. When I looked at me, my whole body was full of poisoned darts. I fainted...

When I woke up, I felt very weak. I tried to step: I raised up and fell. I hit my head and fainted again. I woke up even weaker, but I managed to make some steps... I found a wall and started walking: One, two , three, ... seven??? Ouch! Another wall. I then realized I was locked in some sort of cell. As time passed, I grew weaker and weaker. I still don't know if it was the poison which made me feel like that or the lack of food. I had to survive, that was all I knew. I had no light, I was like a bug: my skin was pale and I was relying on my hearing to distinguish things. I was in a cell of 7 m2 , almost no food and water, and no bed. I had to get out. In that darkness I distinguished a low sound, like someone was walking. Then I realized that  it was nothing more... Than a bug! The Bug that saved my life.

I remembered... Bugs contain proteins. I picked that little fellow up. It was moving desperately, trying to escape. I felt sorry for him, but there was no other way. I closed my eyes and swallowed it. The taste was bitter, but I felt that a part of my strength came back. Soon I started to eat everything I could: from ants to rats. I started getting used to the taste, and soon I got my whole strength back. I started doing exercise, my current strength level was not enough to defeat those ninjas. In a week I was as twice as strong and by the end of the month I was in a perfect shape. Now I only had to get out. I examined the cell, and after some time I noticed a little crack in a wall. I started digging my long and painful way out...

My hands were sore and my feet were numb.
